Attention Seeker

3yo gelding – Cotai Glory x Hecuba
Trainer: Brian Ellison

Attention Seeker was purchased as a possible dual-purpose prospect, with a step up in trip being an avenue we were keen to explore, despite his sire being an out-and-out sprinter. There is stamina on the dam’s side — Hecuba stayed much further and is related to several useful stayers — and if he does stay, it opens up a range of options, including the potential to go hurdling.

On his second start at Brighton, he shaped encouragingly, keeping on strongly up the hill on soft ground. His next run on the all-weather was perfectly respectable, with the form working out well, while his fourth start was a little disappointing, albeit with some minor excuses. He has raced a little keenly at times despite wearing a hood, but that is something we expect to improve with experience. Whether he ultimately proves best suited by further or settles at a mile, he looks an interesting horse with scope to progress.

He was originally due to run through the winter, but after a short spell at Brian’s it was felt that he would benefit from a wind operation. He is now close to returning, with Newcastle on February 6th pencilled in for his first run for us.
